Wajub vs Flutterwave

Flutterwave collects your payments and pays you out. Wajub picks, for each payment, between your Flutterwave account and your other providers: the two work together more than they compete.

In short

Flutterwave is a payment service provider (PSP): it collects your payments by mobile money, card or transfer, holds them for its holding period, then pays you out, on the next business day for a local payment according to its published schedule.

Wajub is an orchestration layer: it does not collect or hold funds. You connect your own accounts, Flutterwave included, and Wajub picks the route for each payment. If Flutterwave is unreachable during a mobile money payment, the payment goes through another connection, with nothing to redo on your side.

Point by point

What it is

Wajub

Payment orchestration layer: one API, several providers behind it. Not a payment institution.

Flutterwave

Payment service provider: it collects for you.1

Who collects the funds

Wajub

Your providers, on your own accounts, who pay you out under your contract. Wajub does not hold funds.

Flutterwave

Flutterwave, which pays you out after its holding period: the next business day for a local payment, 5 business days for an international one.56

Countries in Africa

Wajub

23 countries, channel by channel, depending on the connections you enable.

Flutterwave

Published pricing for 12 African countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and Zambia.1

Mobile money

Wajub

68 local payment channels, mostly mobile money, including MTN MoMo, Orange Money, Wave, M-Pesa, Airtel Money and Moov Money.

Flutterwave

10 countries in its documentation, including Cameroon (MTN, Orange), Côte d'Ivoire (MTN, Orange, Moov, Wave), Senegal (Orange Money, Wave), Ghana and Kenya (M-Pesa).4

Cards

Wajub

Through the card provider you connect: Stripe, PayPal, Flutterwave, Paystack, CinetPay, FedaPay, or KkiaPay. Card numbers never reach Wajub.

Flutterwave

Yes, local and international.1

Payouts

Wajub

In Cameroon, on the Wajub rail: MTN MoMo, Orange Money and Express Union. Elsewhere, case by case: the team confirms which are available for your account.

Flutterwave

Yes, to bank accounts and mobile money, one by one or in bulk. In Cameroon: 1% per mobile money transfer, XAF 1,500 per bank transfer.27

Providers behind one integration

Wajub

Several: 2 on Pay as you go, 6 on Growth, unlimited on Scale.

Flutterwave

One: Flutterwave.

If the gateway goes down

Wajub

A mobile money payment that fails moves automatically to the next connection, with nothing to redo on your side. A connection that fails repeatedly is set aside, then takes its place back as soon as it works again. Card payments are the exception: they stay with the provider the card was entered with.

Flutterwave

The payment depends on Flutterwave alone. A backup through another provider takes a second contract and your own switching code.

Contract to sign

Wajub

Your contract with each connected provider. In Cameroon, the Wajub rail collects MTN MoMo and Orange Money with no provider contract.

Flutterwave

A Flutterwave account, activated after verification: registration documents and directors' IDs. A "Starter" category accepts a personal ID.8

Pricing

Wajub

Subscription from 0 to FCFA 29,900 a month, then usage beyond the included volume. Your providers' fees come on top, under your contracts.

Flutterwave

Per payment, depending on the country: 2% for mobile money in Cameroon and Senegal, 2.5% in Côte d'Ivoire; 4.8% per international card.239

Test mode

Wajub

Free sandbox, no time limit. Routing between connections runs in production.

Flutterwave

Yes: a new account stays in test mode until it is verified.10

Using Wajub alongside Flutterwave

  1. Integrate the Wajub API: one call creates the payment, your customer pays on the checkout, a webhook confirms the outcome.

  2. In the Dashboard, connect your Flutterwave account with your API keys. Your Flutterwave contract and rates stay the same.

  3. Add a second connection on your main mobile money channels, for example pawaPay or CinetPay: if Flutterwave is unreachable during a mobile money payment, Wajub switches to it.

Choose Flutterwave if

  • You want a single provider that collects, holds the funds and pays you out, under its own licences.

  • You send money to many African countries: Flutterwave transfers cover more countries today than Wajub payouts.

  • One provider is enough, with no backup connection: an orchestration layer then has nothing to add.

Choose Wajub if

  • You already collect with Flutterwave and don't want to lose a sale if that connection becomes unreachable: add a second one on the same channels, without changing contracts.

  • You want to add or change providers without touching your code.

  • You sell in Cameroon and want to start without a provider contract: the Wajub rail collects MTN MoMo and Orange Money there.
